Langford Veterinary Services, Bristol

“We needed a fresh critical communications system that exactly met the needs of our business and Multitone has delivered just that. With excellent technology, knowledgeable and helpful advice at the specification stage and excellent installation and support since, we would have no hesitation in recommending Multitone, its services and products to other similar organisations.”

Lucie Pike, Customer Care Team Leader, Langford Veterinary Services

Langford Veterinary Services (LVS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Bristol and made up of a group of customer-focused veterinary businesses, which provide an extensive range of specialist capabilities and a superior quality of care in all fields. The practice has the largest team of American and European Specialists in the South West of the UK and is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Practice Standards Scheme, reaching the highest recognition available in all areas.

LVS prides its self on offering the best veterinary solutions. It has an impressive set of resources, including two high tech referral hospitals for small animals and equines, a full diagnostic laboratory service and equine, farm and small animal first opinion practices. Its clinics are supported by specialised clinicians, diagnostic imagers, anaesthetists, nurses and other support staff to ensure patients and owners benefit from the best of care available - 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Inevitably its communications systems are a vital ingredient to the successful running of operations, so when the need came to renew these, LVS turned to critical communications provider Multitone to deliver the ideal replacement.

Like any other medical practice, LVS' operations rely on being able to contact members of the medical team reliably and without delay. Pagers have proven to the be the ideal communications tool for these needs, but LVS recognised the need for a revised system,  as Lucie Pike, Customer Care Team Leader elaborated, “We need to be able to contact our vets quickly at all times when working on clinics and without interrupting what they are doing. Unfortunately our previous system was not working consistently, so we decided an upgrade was in order to ensure the critical communications fully met our needs.”

The team at LVS began looking for a provider that could offer the right products and support  for the busy and critical environment they would be used in. Lucie commented, “Before turning to Multitone we approached a number of other providers, but most struggled to  meet the specifics of our brief. We decided to use Multitone as one of our specialists used a similar system at Cambridge University and found that it worked very well there. Our team had detailed meetings with Multitone and they were able to provide a system specification that exactly matched what we required”

By utilising a transmitter and a system supplied by Multitone, LVS is able to completely control its critical communications service and to ensure full levels of reliability and coverage. Multitone recommended an RPE920 paging system which includes a dedicated transmitter and full set of devices for the appropriate members of staff to carry. This system is akin to systems installed in larger private and NHS hospitals.  The pagers chosen, as part of this system, allow for  long and detailed messages to be sent via the reception PCs, have up to 4000 hours battery life and are also very robust and waterproof which is essential due the nature of the work. Whilst the previous system had struggled to meet all the requirement of it, LVS understood the benefits of this system in a critical medical environment.  Equally, the Multitone offering allows LVS to control the alerts from the same switchboard that handles all inbound telephone communications, so the two levels of communication can be administered jointly together.

The new Multitone option has had a considerable impact on LVS' communications as Lucie added, “The new system precisely addresses the issues of consistency of service that were presented by the previous solution. We now know we can always contact staff quickly and efficiently, wherever they are, in an unobtrusive and highly user-friendly way. Multitone's systems are very reliable, so we can rest assured that any urgent message will reach the recipient very quickly, which in turn allows us assuredly to offer the levels of service our patients and their owners need.”

With the success of its updated system LVS will continue to look at the best ways to use its critical communications in relation to the needs of the practice and its clients. Right from a straightforward consultation process to installation and ongoing support, LVS has enjoyed a stress-free implementation of its chosen solution.

Lucie concludes, “We needed a fresh paging system that exactly met the needs of our business and Multitone has delivered just that. With excellent technology, knowledgeable and helpful advice at the specification stage and excellent installation and support since, we would have no hesitation in recommending Multitone, its services and products to other similar organisations. This critical communications solution is ideal for any business that needs to rely upon its critical communications to ensure the right people are contacted quickly and painlessly, whenever needed.”
