On May 11th, it’s a chance to acclaim the contribution of technology over the centuries
When we think about technological innovations, examples of modern-day technology will naturally come to mind: the role of Artificial Intelligence, the use of renewable technologies, smartphones, biotechnology, even apps … it’s a very long list. As we celebrate National Technology Day on May 11th, at Multitone Electronics we are reflecting on the impact of technological change in the past, present – and the future.
The UK’s rich culture of technological invention
The UK boasts an impressive technical heritage. For example, Scottish-born Alexander Bell received his first patent for his ‘harmonic telegraph’ – a telephone – in 1876; Charles Babbage was an English inventor who created the concept of the digital programmable computer way back in the 1820s; and another Scot, John Logie Baird, was responsible for the first public demonstration of ‘televised silhouettes’ at Selfridge’s department store in London in March 1925 – a century ago. These are only three examples; no doubt you can think of others…
