1931

Multitone Electronics Plc was incorporated on 9 May 1931, initially as Multitone Electric Company Limited. The company was founded by Joseph Poliakoff. It began as a manufacturer of electro-acoustic products, including hearing aids. Notable customers for our hearing aids included Winston Churchill.

1956

Multitone invents the world's first closed-loop paging system, which was deployed at St. Thomas' Hospital in London.

1957

A patent is granted for "Improvements in transistor amplifiers".

1981

The company name changes from Multitone Electric Company Limited to Multitone Electronics Plc.

1982

Alexander Poliakoff was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 1982 New Year Honours. He was the son of Joseph Poliakoff, who founded Multitone Electric Company. Alexander himself was an electronics engineer, inventor, and businessman, and served as the chairman of Multitone Electronics for over 40 years.

1983

Multitone Electronics was awarded the coveted British standard 5750 after 3 days of rigorous inspection by BT quality insurance inspectors.

Multitone officially launches EkoTek, its innovative two-way wireless employee protection and lone worker system at the IFSEC exhibition.

2010

Introduction of the Multitone Appear range of messaging apps for smartphones and tablets.
